Considering A Toyota FJ40 For Sale?

Looking for your very first Toyota FJ40 for sale? In this article I’m going to be showing you a few things to be looking for when searching for your very first FJ40 for sale.

First thing is first.  What model year do I need to be looking for and why.  When you begin searching “FJ40 for sale” for the very first time, stick to years 1976 FJ40- 1983 FJ40. The reason being is that these years represent the late year models with features most desired by the mainstream market.

76 FJ40- 83 FJ40 Feature List:

1. Disc Brakes

2.Larger 2-F Motor,

3. 4-speed Transmission

4. Rear Ambulance Doors

In addition to these feature above, the 76-83 FJ40 features a slightly different in the later 76-83 models.  The Fj40 produced in 1975 to 1983 feature a larger 2-F engine, a 6-cylinder motor with 4-speed manual transmission.  There prior engine in the 1974 and older models feature a arguably less desirable and smaller 6 cylinder motor with a 3-speed manual transmission.

There are also a few Land Cruiser FJ40 parts to look over before you very carefully before you make the decision to purchase.  The first is the brakes on the FJ40.  In 76 Toyota put disk brakes in the fron rather than the drum brakes that were on prior.  Make sure that you understand the drum brake system and how to inspect/repair them before jumping into a pre 76 Cruiser.  This is another reason that we recommend pre 76 FJ40’s.

A big warning stay away from FJ40’s that have been repainted but not restored.

If you find a Fj40 for sale that seems like a good deal and it has been painted but nothing else has been restored there is something probable wrong.   You need to make sure you can see the body in it’s original condition in case there is damage to the frame and body that have been covered up with a fresh coat of paint.  In addition to structure damage make sure you look for rust, the biggest killer to the FJ40.  Common areas for rust are located in the rear quarter panels, inside door sills, front seat floor pans, and floor section in the tailgate.
