The Jaguar S Type is one of the icons of the Jaguar Motor Company. It is such a beautiful car, that the original 1963 version had a reintroduction in 1998, which, while showcasing a more modern style and design, still retained the fundamentals that made the original such a great car.
The original S Type was made as a better version of the Jaguar Mark 2. With the Jaguar S Type for sale, the car company gained a much needed sales boost at the time, especially since another model, the Mark X, was selling less than expected.
This bump in sales was because the S Type was a good compromise between the Mark 2 and the Mark X. It was more luxurious than the Mark 2, but at the same time, it was smaller in size and cost less than the Mark X. It also featured key technologies from both models, such as the independent rear suspension of the Mark X, which was critically acclaimed by the auto industry, and twin wishbone front suspension of the Mark 2, both of which combined to give the S Type a very smooth ride.
Design wise, it shared some of the Mark X’s sleek and sharp lines, but at the same time, it was not much more sophisticated looking than the Mark 2. While there are many people who found the combination odd at best, and downright ugly at worst, the success of the S Type’s sales indicate that not all people share the negative comments.
In 1998, there was a brand new S Type Jaguar for sale once again, but this time, it would be a restyled and re-engineered version of the old 1963 model. This newer, more advanced S Type had a design inspired by both the older version and the Mark 2.
Today, there are many S Type Jaguars for sale, both the new model, and the original version. The used Jaguar S Type for sale found in many car websites on the internet are usually those of the 1998-2007 series, with prices ranging from $7,500 to $22,000, depending on make and mileage.
For those who wish to acquire the original 1963 model, however, classic auto dealers or classic car owners have to be contacted. There are some websites that have these, some selling cars of poor condition, which is good for restoration projects, and some selling cars that have retained their original quality — perfect for collectors. Prices range from as low as $2,500, to as high as $15,000, some even higher, depending on the condition.
The Jaguar S Type, both old and new versions, are good cars, & truly deserve the Jaguar name.
