Bentley Motors began when W.O. Bentley decided in 1919 “To build a good car, a fast car, the best in class.” With his knowledge of building World War I aircraft engines, he founded the Bentley Motors Company, which, true to its motto, began to produce hand crafted cars made by highly skilled artists and engineers. Each car is made using high quality materials, and is given very personal attention to ensure that the vehicle is the best that it can be.
Because of this, Bentley cars have become icons in popular culture, used in many movies, T.V. shows, and books. Among the popular Bentley cars, arguably one of the most recognized is the Bentley Turbo R, the car called by Motor Trend to be “the first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name.” This model was first unveiled in 1985 at the Geneva Auto Show, but was not brought to the United States until 1988.

This car is a high performance vehicle equipped with a turbocharged 6.75 liter V8 engine, that can propel the car from 0-60 mph within 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 152 mph. It also has many advanced features for its day, like tuned dampers, a Panhard rod, and a retuned suspension to reduce side to side movement, and a fuel injection system that added more torque to the car. It is a popular choice for pre-owned luxury car buyers, due to its classic design and overall appeal.
The Turbo R was succeeded in 1995 by the short-lived New Turbo R, and then the Bentley Turbo RT, which was the last of the Turbo line of cars Bentley produced. The cars bearing the Turbo RT label are very rare, with only 252 units made.
Another popular car made was a Bentley convertible named the Bentley Azure. Introduced in 1995, the large, 4-seater convertible quickly became popular with celebrities, car lovers, and Bentley lovers everywhere. It had developed into the Azure T in 2009, and continues to be one of the most sought after Bentleys today.
And despite it being a car company for the affluent, Bentley sales have continued to grow steadily over the years, ensuring Bentley’s place well into the future of the industry.
