Over the decades, cars from the company called Bentley Motors have become icons in the automotive industry. Today Bentley sales are enjoying a steady growth because of the reputation earned by its iconic vehicles, many of which were reintroduced to worldwide pop culture by famous celebrities, athletes, and businessmen.
Bentley’s story began In 1919, when a man named W.O. Bentley decided “to build a good car, a fast car, the best in class”. It was then that what we know today as Bentley Motors was born. W.O. Bentley laid the foundations of his dream by using his knowledge of building World War I aircraft engines. His company soon began to create handcrafted vehicles that are made by highly skilled engineers and designers, using only the finest materials available. This has become the standard for Bentley Motors, that is carried on to this day.
One of the iconic names under the Bentley lineup is the Bentley Continental. The Continental name has been used by the company a total of 11 times, over the course 50 plus years, each one representing a large, powerful, and extremely luxurious saloon or coupe.
The first Continental was derived from the Bentley R-Type, and was hereby named the Bentley R Continental. The 2-door Continental took the R-Type’s engine, but in a modified version to improve carburation, induction, and exhaust. This first Continental is very exclusive and rare, with only 208 units produced, including the prototype. This exclusivity will become a trademark for the Continentals to follow, and while production numbers will vary over the years, the Bentley Continental will continue to be reserved for the affluent and elite.
The subsequent Bentley Continentals will continue to push the envelope of luxury, style, and performance, changing only to accommodate the needs of its affluent market. Some are four-door, some are two-door, but all carry with it the most cutting edge elements of luxury and technology. Today, a Bentley Continental for sale can range anywhere between $180,000 to $230,000 brand new, and $50,000 to $95,000 used, depending on the year and condition of the car.
As the prices show, Bentley cars are truly reserved for those who are well-off. Despite this, Bentley sales continue to grow constantly, a testament to the popularity of the brand. However, used Bentleys offer people the chance to own a Bentley car without paying as much as for a brand new one.
And because of the classic styling and prestige of the brand, used Bentleys can still be very good investments. Especially because Bentley has a pre-owned program that will give the same support and treatment brand new car owners get to owners of used Bentley cars.
